Consumer Evaluations
I have however to come across one thing poor to say about this sleeping bag. I am 6' and 225 and slip into and out of this bag with ease. I can move and stretch in a warm and cozy environment. The coldest I have slept in so far has been in the mid-teens. I slept really nicely. It is light and outstanding for backpacking. The value was half of comparable bags I viewed and it also had cost-free shipping. A correct hidden diamond.
Got two of these sleeping bags for myself and my grandson, Nolan, to use when his dad and his other cool grampa decided to take him on a 13th birthday hike he would not forget. The 4 of us snowshoed and skiied by means of a five-foot base of powder snow to an altitute of about 10,000 feet on Colorado's Grand Mesa. Aided by Nolan's mixed breed mountain dog, Templeton, best dog in the world, we built a snow cave, outside dimensions about 16x12 feet, oval shaped, with an inside dome about four-feet high in the center and hollowed out sleeping "rooms." Following climbing a nearby summit, we returned and rolled out these sleeping bags more than a "mattress" of pine boughs and thin, inexpensive ensolite pads. Outside overnight, the temperature plunged to about ten below zero, but inside the snow cave it stayed at just about the freezing mark of 32-degrees F. I was in reality skeptical when I bought these bags. As as an Adirondack Winter 46er I've spent a number of uncomfortable nights in tents on the sides of mountains exactly where the mercury has plunged as low as minus-42 F. Even in a really costly goosedown bag rated to minus-30, staying comfy is hard in any sub-zero circumstance. For the money, I would rank this bag alongside virtually any of the "name brands" that you would spend hundreds of dollars for. Positive it really is bulkier and heavier. But you would have to go a long way to find a a great deal more relatively priced bag that will maintain you warm in a snow cave down to the freezing mark. You would not take it on an Everest or Denali expedition, for confident. But if you want to find out what winter camping is all about without investing a ton of cash in a sleeping bag, this is the way to go. ALL winter bags are over-rate when it comes to staying warm on seriously, really butt-cold nights. But for the dollars, this bag can hardly be beat. Perfect for single-night outings on winter evenings when the bottom doesn't fall entirely out of the thermometer.... I also give Amazon five stars for this particular acquire. I ordered two of the bags and had them delivered to Colorado so I wouldn't have to haul a ton of gear from NY State for just a night or two of camping. When UPS delivered one of the bags to the wrong address (a mistake found later), Amazon quickly shipped a replacement overnight to make up for UPS's errant delivery. The entire encounter left me with a warm feeling - even in a snow cave on a sub-zero mountainside.
